Wix

Use this page if Wix is the registrar your lookup showed.

Wix says it is not possible to change the nameservers of a domain registered with Wix. We need that change to put your site on SayVel, so a Wix domain has to move to a registrar that allows it first. That move is called a transfer. It is a few more steps, and we will help.

Sometimes a domain is bought somewhere else and only connected to a Wix site. In that case the registrar is the company your lookup names, and you change the nameservers there. Pick that registrar from the any-registrar page. The rest of this page is only for a domain registered with Wix itself.

Read this part first. Wix says:

  • The Wix site is disconnected from the domain when the domain moves away.
  • If your email address at the domain was set up through Wix, it stops working until its records are added again at the new place.
  • Your renewals follow the new registrar’s pricing from then on.
  • A transfer usually takes up to 7 days. Wix cannot speed it up.

Tell us about your email before you start. We can read the records your domain uses now and carry them over, which is much easier than rebuilding them afterward. See Email keeps working.

The rules that govern all domains say a domain cannot be transferred within 60 days of any of these:

  • You registered it.
  • You changed the owner contact information on it.
  • You transferred it from one registrar to another.

If one of those happened recently, wait until 60 days have passed. Wix also suggests starting the transfer before you change any contact information, so you do not start the 60-day wait by accident.

  1. Message us from your SayVel dashboard and tell us you have a Wix domain.

  2. Choose the registrar you want to move to. Pick one that lets you set your own nameservers. The guides for GoDaddy, Namecheap, Squarespace Domains, Network Solutions, Bluehost and IONOS each show where to do it.

  3. In your Wix account, make sure the domain is unlocked. Wix says it must be unlocked before you begin, but its transfer page does not show where to do that. If you cannot find it, ask Wix support or message us.

  4. Wix suggests turning off Private Registration first, so you do not miss emails about the transfer. The code in step 6 goes to the contact email on the domain, so make sure you can read that inbox.

  5. In your Wix account, open Domains. Next to your domain, select the Domain Actions icon, then select Transfer away from Wix.

  6. Read the information Wix shows you, then select Transfer Domain, then I Still Want to Transfer. Wix emails a transfer authorization code to the contact email on the domain.

  7. At your new registrar, start a transfer in and give it the code when it asks. Follow that registrar’s own instructions for this part.

  8. When the transfer finishes, open the guide for your new registrar and follow it to change the nameservers.

  • Wix also lets you point a domain at another site by editing records inside Wix. We do not use that route for SayVel sites. We need the nameserver change, so that your site and your email records can live in one place.
  • The owner of the Wix site can start the transfer. A co-owner with the Admin role can too, if the domain is in their Wix account and they own the payment method used for it. If you are not the person who set up the domain, ask who is.
  • If anything looks wrong in the middle of a transfer, message us and tell us where you are. Wix cannot follow a transfer once it has started, so your new registrar is the one to ask about its progress.
  • If a domain will not transfer, see A locked domain.
