Find where your domain lives
Before you change anything, find out two things: who your registrar is (where you sign in to manage the domain), and where your domain points today. A free public lookup from ICANN, the group that oversees domain names, answers both. You do not need to sign in anywhere.
-
Open the ICANN lookup at lookup.icann.org.
-
Type your domain into the box, like
yourbusiness.com. Leave offwwwandhttps://. -
Select the lookup button.
-
Find the Registrar Information section and read the Name. That is your registrar. Write it down.
-
Find the Nameservers list. These are the places your domain points today. Write them all down, exactly as shown. You will want them if you ever need to switch back.
-
Look at Domain Status, and at Delegation Signed under DNSSEC Information. Note what they say. The common problems page explains both.
What the results mean
Section titled “What the results mean”The registrar name is where you sign in. It is also where you pay the yearly renewal. Go to that company’s website and sign in with the account that owns the domain.
The nameservers may belong to someone else. It is normal for a domain to be registered at one company and point to another. A web host, a website builder, or Cloudflare may run your domain’s settings today. You still make the change at your registrar, not at the company named in the nameservers.
If you cannot sign in
Section titled “If you cannot sign in”If you do not know which email address holds the account, search your inboxes for your domain name together with “domain” or “renewal”. Most registrars have a “forgot my username or password” link on their sign-in page. If you are still stuck, message us from your SayVel dashboard and tell us the registrar name from the lookup.
Go to Move your DNS to SayVel and pick your registrar.
