Move your DNS to SayVel (any registrar)

Every registrar words things a little differently, but the job is always the same: replace your domain’s current nameservers with the two nameservers on your SayVel dashboard. This page covers what stays the same everywhere. If your registrar has its own page, use that one for the exact buttons.

Not on the list? Use the steps below. Not sure who your registrar is? Find where your domain lives first.

  1. Look at your preview. Switching is the moment your SayVel site replaces the old one.
  2. Tell us about your email. We copy your current records, including the ones that keep your email working, before you switch. Read Email keeps working if you use email at your domain.
  3. Write down your current nameservers. The lookup shows them. If something goes wrong, you can put them back.
  4. Turn off DNSSEC first if it is on. Check on the lookup page. If it is on, do not change the nameservers yet: see DNSSEC in common problems, because there is a short wait.
  5. Open your SayVel dashboard and find the two nameservers for your domain. Keep that tab open so you can copy them exactly.
  1. Sign in to your registrar, the company the lookup named.

  2. Open the settings for your domain. Look for a list of your domains and select the one you are moving.

  3. Find the nameserver settings. Depending on the company, they sit under a heading like DNS, Nameservers, or Domain settings.

  4. Choose the option for your own or custom nameservers. It may be worded “custom”, “my own”, or “other”. Do not pick the registrar’s default nameservers.

  5. Remove the nameservers that are listed now.

  6. Enter the two nameservers from your SayVel dashboard, one in each box. Copy them exactly. Add them in the order your dashboard shows them.

  7. Save. Some registrars ask you to confirm with a code sent to your phone or email. That is normal.

Registrars take different amounts of time to apply the change. The ones we checked say anywhere from within an hour to up to 48 hours. Each registrar page repeats what its own help page says. While you wait, some visitors may still see your old site. That is normal.

Next, check that it worked.

Put your old nameservers back at your registrar, using the list you wrote down, then message us from your SayVel dashboard. Switching back puts your old setup back, as long as your old host still has your records. Do not delete anything at your old host until your SayVel site has been live and your email has been working for a while.
