Preview, undo and publish

Everything you change in the Studio is a draft until you publish. Your visitors see nothing new until then. Nothing is lost if you stop halfway.

The page beside the editing panel is a live preview. It changes as you type, switch an arrangement or swap a photo, so you see the result before anyone else does.

Your unpublished work is kept in your browser as you go. If you close the tab and come back to the same page in the same browser, the Studio picks it up and says Picked up where you left off.

Your browser may also ask whether you really want to leave the page. If you have unpublished changes, stay and publish them first, or leave and come back to them later.

If your live site changed while you were away, a bar says Your live site changed since you started this draft. You have two choices.

  • Keep my version. Brings your unpublished changes back.
  • Start from what’s live. Drops them and starts over from what your visitors see.

If your changes were made on an older version of the page, they cannot be put back safely. The Studio sets them aside and tells you, so nothing live is overwritten.

At the bottom of the editing panel are Undo and Redo. On a Mac, the keyboard shortcuts are ⌘Z and ⌘⇧Z.

For more control, open What’s changed in the panel. Every change you make is listed there, newest first, with the time.

  • On the newest change, the button reads Take it back.
  • On an older change, it reads Back to before this. This also removes the changes made after it, and the list says so.

Before you have made any change, the list is empty and says Nothing yet.

These buttons undo changes that are not published yet. To go back after publishing, see Publish history and going back.

  1. Look at the Publish button at the bottom of the panel. Once you have made changes it shows how many, like Publish 3 changes. A note under it says Publishing saves your changes and rebuilds your site.

  2. Click it. The button reads Publishing… and then Publishing, and the note says it usually takes under two minutes. You can keep editing while you wait.

  3. If a change would take something off your live page, the Studio first asks Publish these changes? and lists what would come off. Click Publish to go ahead. Click Not yet to stop. Nothing is published and your changes stay.

  4. When your site has the changes, the button reads Live followed by your site’s address, and the note says Your live site matches this preview.

If it takes longer than usual, the button reads Still working. Give it a little longer. If you change something else afterward, the button goes back to showing the number of changes, because the page no longer matches the live site.

What you see What to do

Nothing was published. This page changed since you opened it. The button reads Reload. Click Reload, then make your change again. If the page still looks the same, wait a minute for the update to finish and reload again.
Publishing needs an active plan. Check your plan in your dashboard. See Plan and billing.
Your editing session expired. Open the Studio again from your dashboard with Edit in Studio.
Could not reach SayVel. Your edits are still there. Try publishing again.
Could not publish. It gives a reason. Read the reason, then try again. If it keeps happening, see Get help.

Your dashboard also lists everything you have published. See Publish history and going back.
