Email keeps working

If you have email at your domain, like you@yourbusiness.com, this page is for you. If you only use Gmail, Outlook.com, or another address that does not end in your own domain, nothing here changes for you. Skip ahead to Move your DNS to SayVel.

Your domain’s nameservers hold a set of records. Some of them tell the internet where your email lives. When you switch to our nameservers, those records have to be there waiting, or email stops arriving.

So before you switch, we look at your domain’s current records and copy the ones we find into your SayVel setup, email records included. You do not have to retype anything.

We can only copy what we can find from the outside. Common records are covered, but unusual ones can hide. If your old host or registrar lets you view or download your full list of DNS records, that is the most complete source. Save a copy before you switch, and send it to us if you can.

Message us from your SayVel dashboard before you switch if any of these fit you.

  • Your email comes with your web hosting. Mailboxes that came bundled with a hosting plan often depend on settings at that host.
  • Your registrar runs your email or your email forwarding. Some registrars sell email, or forward mail for you. Those settings may live in the registrar’s own DNS.
  • You use a service we might not know about. Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, and Zoho are common and familiar to us. A smaller provider is worth a note.
  • You are not sure. Tell us the address you check mail with. We will help work out where it lives.
  1. If you can, save a copy of your current DNS records. A screenshot is fine.

  2. Send a test message to your domain address and make sure it arrives. That way you know it worked before the change.

  3. Make the change at your registrar. Follow Move your DNS to SayVel.

  1. Send a message from your domain address to a personal address, and ask for a reply.

  2. Ask someone to send a message to your domain address.

  3. Check your spam folder if something seems missing.

Do the test the same day, and again the next day. During the wait after a nameserver change, the internet is partly using the old setup and partly the new one, so a problem can show up late.

  1. Put your old nameservers back at your registrar. The list you wrote down in Find where your domain lives is for exactly this.
  2. Message us from your SayVel dashboard and tell us which address failed and what happened.
